Our Client Akilah Institute for Women (Akilah) empowers young women in East Africa to transform their lives by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to find meaningful employment and launch ventures in the fastest growing se ctors of the economy. Akilah is seeking to fill the positions below:

1. POSITION: Deputy Director based in Kigali, Rwanda

Akilah is looking for a highly motivated staff member looking for a rewarding career managing a higher education campus for women. We are looking for a leader with a track record of success in team building, managing budgets, managing staff, a deep passion for education, knowledge of the Rwandan private sector and a person who is open to feedback and professional development in a training setting. Akilah’s model reimagines higher education for women in Rwanda.

Key Responsibilities, Desired skills and experience

We are looking for an exceptional leader who shares our belief that educating young women is simply the wisest and most effective investment a developing country can make. Some of the key responsibilities;

Participate in company-specific on the job training designed to cover all aspects of Country Director duties including, but not limited to: management of Operations, Academics, oversight of finance and HR, creating a positive working atmosphere, promotion of the Akilah brand, etc.

Leadership and External Relations: - Provide a high degree of visibility in the community; forge and maintain relationships with local stakeholders for strategic partnerships and potential funding opportunities.

Private Sector Relations: - Collect and present data regarding available job opportunities in the country and maintain and grow a pipeline for internship and employment opportunities.

Operational Oversight: - Ensure smooth campus operations while using developed curriculum, financial systems, student management systems, etc

Financial Oversight: - Manage the effective development and implementation of the following key financial i.e. Tuition Policy, Processes & Payments, Annual, Quarterly & Monthly Budgeting, Cash Flow (includes petty) & Bank Account Oversight, Communications & Audit Process with US Office and Chief Operations Officer (based in USA), Additionally, oversee management of the organizational budget, oversee all financial transactions, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

Fundraising: - Identify and cultivate potential hinders, as possible and appropriate;

Staff Management and Development: - Manage Academic Director in hiring and management of faculty, implementation of the academic model and the accreditation process

Student Body Oversight - Oversee M&E strategy to measure impact of the Akilah experience on students in full collaboration with the Academic Director and CEO;

Culture Creation: - Promote an organizational culture that inspires and motivates staff, community partners and board members

Career Growth and Development

QUALIFICATIONS &SKILLS:

5-10 years of experience in a management position, preferably in education

Master’s Degree preferred — in related field
Demonstrated passion for working with young women, empowering them through education, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a commitment to the mission of Akilah
2. POSITION: Director of Education Programs /Kigali, Rwanda

The Director of Education Programs, designs, implements, facilitates, and evaluates leadership development strategies, initiatives, and programs. Additional critical responsibility for this position will be management of human resources and talent management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with senior leadership team to set HR strategic direction and operational plans;
Develop and oversee a system of effective performance reviews, which links individual performance to organizational outcomes, values and core competencies;

Oversee the planning, implementation and resource development for staff training;

Design, write, and develop executive leadership development curriculums

Lead professional development resumes and interviewing workshops for 280 students and help them prepare for their long ten goals.

Develop and maintain competency frameworks and models, providing comprehensive development tools for each competency

Engage in coaching relationships with directors and officers
Evaluate executive development program effectiveness on an ongoing basis

Identify and evaluate internal and external programs to create a formal, ongoing, executive development process

Lead executive on boarding and targeted orientation initiatives
Liaise with division teams to create training programs in line with business needs

Desired skills and experience

Ability to think conceptually and strategically, while maintaining a cost-conscious old practical approach to using time and resources
Track record of working with students on resume writing and interviewing skill development

Ability to maintain long-term, big picture views

Ability to work successfully with CEO and management team

Demonstrated track record in coaching effectively to assist executives in reaching their full potential

Strong consulting/facilitation skills

Strong project planning skills and ability to design, implement. and facilitate successful leadership development initiatives and programs
Strong understanding of instructional design, multi-media training, and knowledge around key learning systems
QUALIFICATIONS &SKILLS:

8+ years of experience working in an organizational development role
Experience teaching students about resume writing, career coaching, and interview skills.

Strong project management and operational experience
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, organizational development, or a related degree required

3. POSITION: Director of Career Development Strategy and Partnerships /Kigali, Rwanda

The Director of Career Development, Strategy, and Partnerships (DCSP) will play a critical role in supporting the educational experience of these aspiring women leaders by helping to build deep partnerships with the private sector throughout Rwanda. S/he should be strategic, a serious critical thinker, and detail-oriented. S/he is extremely creative when it comes to finding ways to identify industry trends and making a case for why new industries and companies should hire Akilah graduates. He/she is able to hold the big picture in mind while diving into the granular details.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Own the success of all partnership cultivation, oversight, and ongoing management

Work closely with the Director of Career Development to create a 3 year plan for all students related to their career aspirations and course of study. Create a comprehensive program for all students to be placed into successful and well suited internships and job placements. Design a program for students to develop their resume building and interview skills.

Spearhead a comprehensive feedback loop with our partners. Develop the analytical tools to assess our graduate’s performance once they are placed into jobs. Our goal is to move beyond anecdotal stories and find a systemic way to collect aggregated feedback, identify patterns of success and challenges, and use the data to drive improvements in the program.

Communicate effectively with the Chief Academic Officer to integrate feedback into the curriculum.

Serve as critical thought partner to the Country Director and leadership team in the US. Provide sound counsel, demonstrate fidelity to the vision, and exercise judgment in sensitive situations.
Supervise 1-2 staff members.

Work in close proximity to the Director of Communications to ensure consistent messaging.

Leverage community, private sector, government conferences and events to build strategic partnerships. Identify ways to showcase our students’ hands-on teaming work—in order to engage current and prospective partners more deeply.

Expand Akilah’s partnership base and pipeline by crafting and implementing a comprehensive partnership strategy.

Cultivate, strengthen, and expand corporate partnerships to develop job placement sites for the students and graduates.
Work effectively with colleagues across the growing Akilah global network to share information, resources, and leads. Help to manage relationships effectively and collaborate on global efforts.

Create an alumni strategy to maintain ongoing relationships with Akilah’s graduates. Devise a process to collect data on all graduate’s job performance and promotion rates.

Work with the Chief Academic Officer and Country Director to design a program that helps students prepare for their job search and long term careers during their three years at Akilah.

Develop a career assessment tools that assist students in thinking about what kinds of careers they would be good at based on their performance and interpersonal skills.

Develop workshops for students so that they can explore future careers options. Create recruiting events and activities that will bring corporate partners and student together a few times a year.

QUALIFICATIONS &SKILLS:

5+ years of relevant experience in sales, partnership building, relationship management, or business development. Private, public, and non-profit backgrounds are all valued. The ideal candidate will have succeeded in a high-performing organization and be eager to apply best practices.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; relevant advanced degree preferred.

Salary is extremely competitive, on par with senior management roles with an additional performance bonus beyond fixed salary and benefits.
