SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation working in over 30 developing countries for more than 40 years. SNV has been working in Rwanda since 1980 and is active in all of SNV’s three sectors: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Renewable Energy and Agriculture.

The Agriculture programme in Rwanda presently focuses on Value Chain Development in the sub-sectors of Dairy, Coffee, and Beekeeping. SNV builds on existing knowledge; experience and track record in value chain development to stimulate pro-poor growth, unlock resources and create wealth in an inclusive way whilst ensuring good governance practices.

For further development of the programme SNV Rwanda is looking following experts with strong experience/affinity in post-harvest management and agri-business (commodities: dairy, cassava, dairy, Irish potatoes, maize, beans):

A. Team Leader Value Chain Development (number RW — 1001)

He/she will be responsible for overall coordination of the project.

The following are the qualifications required:

Master’s degree in Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, Food Science and Technology, Rural development, or any related field with a minimum experience of 5 years in post-harvest, processing, agribusiness, commodity value chain development, and business oriented approach for economic development, etc.

Experience in cooperative management and capacity building in agricultural cooperatives,

Experience working with the private sector to build and sustain mutually beneficial market linkages, preferably experience working for the private sector,

Good analytical skills and an ability to provide practical and sound advice on rural development issues,

Proven experience to work with various stakeholders in cooperatives like RCA, MINAGRI, MINICOM, etc.

Strong coordination, networking and relationship building skills,

Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills,

Organized, punctual and detail oriented,

Proven capacities to work in English and Kinyarwanda,

Ability to work in team setting, taking initiatives and performing multiple tasks,

Able to travel to project sites

B. Four expert positions:

The following are the qualifications required:

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:

Food Science and Technology with proven experience of 5 years in post-harvest technology development (position: ’Expert in Food Science — number: RW-1002)

Agribusiness/Agri-Economics with proven experience of 5 years in similar assignments (position: "Agribusiness-Economics — number: RW -1003)

Sociology with proven experience of 5 years in similar assignments (position: Expert in Social Sciences — number RW 1004)

Veterinary with proven experience of 5 years in similar assignments (position: Expert in Veterinary — number: RW 1005)

Rural Development with proven experience of 5 years in similar assignments (position: Expert in Rural Development —number: RW 1006)

For all positions:

Demonstrate marketing experience and skills,

Proven capacities to work in English and Kinyarwanda,

Excellent computer skills,

Proven experience in consultancy services.
