Other reports indicated Karera had made discomforting remarks about the Uganda-Rwanda relations, claims we are yet to substantiate as we couldn’t access the detained real estate mogul for comment.

But ChimpReports has reliably established that Karera was taken to his residence in Kigali on Tuesday.

“He is now at his home recuperating from the tough ordeal he went through a fortnight ago,” said a close associate of the wealthy businessman.

The former Deputy Inspector General of Police was arrested alongside ex Intelligence Chief Lt Gen Karenzi Karake alias KK.

Karake’s fate is yet to be established.

It’s understood accessing Karera became so difficult for family members during his detention.

“He has been on insulin for long. We were worried the detention would seriously affect his health,” said a confidant who spoke on condition of anonymity as this is a sensitive matter.

Insulin is a drug that keeps one’s blood sugar level from getting too high (hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia).

Karera owns prime properties in Kigali including Park View Courts in the plush suburb of Nyarutarama, Kigali, and the adjacent residence which is currently occupied by Uganda’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Olivier Wonekha.

Born in Rutooma, Kashari District, Western Uganda, Karera served in the Ugandan armed forces before joining the RPF struggle that ended the 1994 genocide and ushered President Kagame to power.

Karera also served as chairman of the East African Business Council representing Rwanda.

The businessman also took up the positions of President of Rwanda Hoteliers Association, which brings together Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, Lodges, and Guest Houses and other hospitality related facilities; and Honorary Consul of Ghana in Rwanda.

He is a brother of Rwanda’s Justice Minister Johnston Busingye who oversees the administration of Justice in the country.
