Kicukiro: Two held over breaking into houses and stealing

Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi identified the suspects as Fredrick Nizeyimana and Martin Harorimana, both 29 years.

They were taken into custody on October 2, in Amahoro Village, Karembure Cell in Gahanga Sector, CIP Kayigi said.

"They were found with a stolen motorcycle which we suspect it was stolen; it didn’t have plate numbers neither did they have its identification documents," he said.

Police also recovered from the duo other stolen items that include a television set and an amplifier.

The electronics were also stolen after the duo broke into a house in located in the same area where the suspects were arrested.

“The two were arrested red-handed with the items during a regular operation mounted jointly by police, RIB investigators and DASSO,” he explained.

"The operation was based on information from residents about the two men whom they suspected to be thieves and behind the same burglary," he said.

Theft under 166 of the penal code, is punishable with an imprisonment of between one and two year, a fine of up to Rwf2 million, and community service for a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
