Police in Gisagara District arrested two men on July 30, in connection with theft of electronics.

Pacifique Habarugira, 21, and Gerald Ndayisaba, 27, are suspected to have stolen two computer laptops and three smart phones.

The electronics were stolen recently in Kicukiro District, where the duo was employed as casual workers.

They were arrested in Mamba Cell of Mamba Sector following information relayed by local residents, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Southern region Police spokesperson, said.

“As usual, when a crime is committed in one place information is circulated in other District Police Units, especially where it is suspected that it’s where suspects could be hiding,” CIP Kayigi said.

He added: “Although this was the case, we received information from residents of Mamba about two people that had computers and expensive mobile phones. This had raised their suspicions owing to the fact that these are usual people without any computer knowledge and had no capacity to buy such expensive handsets, and they decided to inform the Police.”

“Police officers were dispatched and indeed they found them with the same electronics reportedly stolen in Kigali (Kicukiro), which they had concealed in bags.”

The duo was handed over to Rwanda Investigations Bureau, the spokesperson said.

He lauded the vigilance of the residents and the existing partnership with the general public particularly in the areas of crime detection and prevention.

“When you become suspicious about something or someone to be engaged in unlawful or criminal activities always share information very fast to inform security organs to find out,” he said.

“Partnership between public and security organs is essential not only prevent criminal activities but also to recover stolen property,” he maintained.
